New Jersey Ranger’s Dominic Reinold named PDL Player of the Week
|
| Tampa, FL (May 26, 2010) United Soccer Leagues announced today the Premier
Development League (PDL) Team of the Week honoring New Jersey Rangers forward Dominic Reinold as the Player of
the Week. Reinold made Rangers’ history by scoring game-winning goals in consecutive matches. Now in their third
season, the Rangers had previously won only two games in both the 2008 and 2009 campaigns. Their record in 2010
now stands at 3-1-0. |
| Reinold’s first goal of the week came in a 1-0 win over the Hampton Roads
Piranhas in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The goal was scored in the 63rd minute off an assist from Steven Keker, who
had just come on for Sergio Munoz in the 58th minute. Just 22 hours later, the Rangers took the field opposite
the Northern Virginia Royals in Manassas, Virginia. At the 14-minute mark of that game, New Jersey’s Samson Malijani
gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead only to see the Royals storm back with goals that sandwiched the halftime whistle.
Down 2-1, Reinold tallied in the 75th minute to knot the game at 2-2. |

US Falls To Czech Republic 4-2
|
| Hartford, CT (May 26, 2010) With the World Cup just a few weeks away, The
national team is gearing up to impress the world on soccer's biggest stage. On Tuesday night, the US Men's National
Soccer Team began their "send-off" campaign to the World Cup in South Africa with a hard fought 4-2 loss
to the Czech Republic. Did the US get off on the wrong foot or was this a step in the right direction? Although
the final score may show otherwise, many positives can be taken from the match. For coach Bob Bradley he had an
opportunity to see many of the 30 players currently in camp play against world class opposition. |
| Last Thursday, Oguchi Onyewu answered questions at an interview following
practice at Princeton University. On Tuesday he answered questions on the field. He played 65 solid minutes in
the backfield for the U.S. He showed good pace and feel for the game although he was out jumped for a header resulting
in a goal for the Czechs. Onyewu, arguably the U.S team's best defender, will need to show more improvement in
his surgically repaired patella tendon if he is to return to prominence on the world stage. |
| Coach Bradley may have also found an answer to his striker concerns. Substitute
Herculez Gomez scored a beautiful goal in the 65th minute, heading in a cross past the Czech keeper. With questions
at the position, Gomez gave the coaching staff some options regarding his place on the team. |
| Overall, with starters, Landon Donovan and Tim Howard, not on the field,
the U.S. stayed competitive against the Czechs who had beaten the U.S. 3-0 in Germany at the 2006 World Cup. However,
their play must improve to a higher quality if they are to compete with England on June 12. The upcoming matches
against Turkey (May 29 in Philadelphia) and against Australia (June 5 in South Africa) will be very important for
Coach Bradley as he tries to find the right combinations for the World Cup competition. |
